My Place Fish & Chips is a straightforward, no-frills spot in Scarborough where the focus is firmly on delivering classic fish and chips with a Scottish twist. Located on Victoria Park Avenue, this restaurant has quietly built a loyal following since the mid-90s, favored by locals who appreciate a reliably well-executed meal without the fuss.

Inside, the atmosphere leans toward a mom-and-pop feel, with simple, dated furnishings that speak to its longtime neighborhood presence rather than any trend-driven makeover. Seating is ample, making it a comfortable choice for both quick solo lunches and casual dinners with friends or family. Weekends and quiet weekday afternoons come recommended if you want to enjoy a more relaxed vibe, when regulars and newcomers alike settle in for a familiar, satisfying meal.

The menu clearly centers on fish and chips done right, with options like halibut, haddock, and grouper cooked in a light, crisp batter that manages to avoid the heavy greasiness often associated with the dish. Patrons consistently note the batter’s delicate golden color and the flaky, fresh quality of the fish inside. The fries hold their own with a pleasing crispness, and there’s a good variety of side options such as onion rings, coleslaw, and Scottish staples like haggis and black pudding, which help distinguish it from more generic fast-food fish and chips spots.

The service here is consistently described as prompt and friendly, with the owner often making an appearance and chatting with diners, contributing to the familiar, community-rooted atmosphere. For example, the coleslaw is hand-cut daily, a small detail that adds to the sense this place takes pride in its food basics.

Who will enjoy My Place Fish & Chips? Anyone looking for a hearty, straightforward fish and chips meal with a touch of Scottish flavor will find it worthwhile. It’s well-suited for those who appreciate a comfortable, unpretentious environment rather than a polished dining experience. Families, couples, and individuals wanting a dependable spot where the food speaks for itself will feel right at home.

Best times to visit include quieter weekday afternoons or Sundays, when the pace slows down and the restaurant feels less busy but still welcoming. Fridays and weekends can be busier, making it feel lively without being overwhelming.

In summary, My Place Fish & Chips remains a solid choice in Scarborough’s food scene for people who favor familiar, well-prepared fish and chips with a bit of Scottish character, served in a relaxed, community-minded setting.

Absolutely delicious from start to finish. The portions were fantastic, the food tasted fresh, and the batter was perfectly light. The service was great, and the quiet atmosphere, with plenty of loyal regulars, made it feel special. The Scottish influence really sets it apart from other fish & chips restaurants in Toronto. We’re thrilled to have found our new go-to spot. Highly recommend!

One of those iconic fish and chips spots in Toronto. This spot has been around for a minute and for good reason. The fish batter is a light golden colour as opposed to the deep golden colour. This makes it not as greasy which makes for a lighter bite. That being said, the batter is still crisp and the fish is still flaky. The fries are also really good here. Service was great. Super quick and once you order, they bring the food to your table. Parking is tough in this lot since there’s so many spots to eat at and not enough spots for how many places there are. So will have to be patient waiting for a spot when it’s a full lot. As well, if you find a spot, don’t try for a better one, take the first one you see. Great job overall

I went here with my girlfriend for the first time, and, to put it simply, it was all amazing! It was Sunday, so it was quiet, which was quite nice. The owner is super sweet and told us that she's been open since 1996! The food was really good! We both had halibut and chips (I had two pieces of fish, and she had a half-portion) of fries. Everything was perfectly cooked and really tasty! I loved the crispy batter on the fish. The fish was a bit thin, and the tartar sauce was a bit sweet, but these are just personal tastes and not deal-breakers at all! We'll definitely be back! Maybe for their 30th anniversary!

We had a hankering for fish and chips one day and Google recommended this place. On a summer Friday afternoon, this place was doing some brisk business. The service was great and we got our food very quickly. The coleslaw was crisp and not watery. It had just the right amount of tartness, I wish I could have more. The owner told me that she hand cut the coleslaw everyday. The haddock was a little dry but the halibut was good! The fries were good too. Given the colour of the food and the taste, it was apparent that this restaurant changed the oil very recently. It was a good neighbourhood fish and chips, and our cravings for chips and fried fish were fully sated!

Plenty of seating, although furniture is a bit dated, giving a mom and pop shop feel. Came for dinner on a Thursday, service was quick, prompt and very attentive. Portion is very filling, batter is light and fish quality good.

We had an amazing dinner at My Place Fish and Chips, run by the wonderful mother and daughter team Mae and Tiffany. From the moment we walked in, the service was warm, welcoming, and truly exceptional. The atmosphere was clean, cozy, and inviting, and the food was absolutely top notch. The fish was battered to perfection. Very crispy, golden, and not oily at all. The chips were cooked exactly right, with great texture and flavour. They provided all the classic condiments tartar sauce, vinegar, and ketchup to complete the experience. The restaurant was spotless, and you can tell Mae and Tiffany take real pride in what they do. We’re already looking forward to going back to try more items from their menu. Thank you, Mae and Tiffany, for an awesome fish and chips dinner! Highly recommended.

IMO the best fish and chip in Toronto that proudly serves and represents the core spirit of fish and chips. It's cheap, fresh and absolutely divine in my opinion. It has been a while since I've given a 5 star rating and this place deserves it, the service is extremely warm and fast, the restaurant has that rare and sought after hole in the wall feel and the fried grouper lunch special is just dynamite. What places this spot above all other fish and chip joints is their focus on making the food good, cheap and fast. I would normally replicate everything I go out to eat but this place holds a special place for me on account of all of the above reasons. But that's just my opinion, I highly recommend checking it out and giving it a try yourself.

As others have mentioned, this fish and chips spot is light on the grease side and still crispy! The grouper is what brought my brother and I to this location to try! It was delicious and priced well in today's economy! I believe it was around $12. Surprisingly Grouper is fairly tasty, but halibut will always be my favorite. If you're like me, you're going to drown ur fish and fries in their homemade tartar sauce . Delicious!
